Obituary: Virginia M. Coburn

Virginia Maxine Coburn, 84, died Jan. 16, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Enid, Okla. She was born April 21, 1927, at Lucien, Okla., the daughter of Charley Logan Walker and Easter Lilly Black Walker.

On Dec. 31, 1946, she married Douglas D. Coburn at Preston. He died July 30, 1962.

She and her husband owned and operated the grocery store in Preston for more than 20 years. Following his death, she worked as a housekeeper for the First National Bank in Pratt for more than 14 years, before retiring and moving to the Meadows Point Apartments in Enid, Okla.

She was a member of Preston United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary, both at Preston.

Survivors include: two daughters, Marsha Jan Isley, Topeka, and Dayna L. Ohley and husband Kenneth, Broomfield, Colo.; brother, Eugene Walker, Ft. Dodge; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Floyd Walker.

Graveside service is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Haynesville Cemetery, Preston, with Dr. Ken Stanton presiding. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary.
