To the editor:
The message is clear: alcohol ruins lives (or puts them on hold), shatters families, and destroys careers. Alcohol is likely the number one reason for poor-decision making (usually accompanied by an unwillingness to take responsibility for the results of alcohol abuse). I have too often witnessed the trail of destruction and dysfunction left in its wake. What can we do? Why not start at the source? In our free enterprise system, liquor stores and other such establishments selling intoxicating substances have the right to do so. As consumers, we decide where our money is spent. So, in the spirit of Kansas ’ Carrie Nation, wield your checkbook (or debit card) instead of a hatchet. Don’t patronize the liquor stores, avoid the beer section at the convenience store, and refuse the tap at the bar and grill. Turn toward your family and away from the bottle
