Pratt high football has their home opener against Larned Friday night.

It hasn't been very often that the Pratt vs. Larned rivalry game is featured for the football home opener. But with the Indians competing in 3A in the second year of the current scheduling cycle, the Pratt/ Larned match-up must again be conducted before district play commences.

Thus, the 4A Division 2 State Champion Greenbacks will begin their title defense by hosting the Indians on Friday night at Zerger Field.

Larned head coach AB Stokes has a record of 21-27 entering his 6th season at the controls. Last year, the Indians went 3-8, losing in the second round of the 3A playoffs.

There are 15 Larned starters returning on what was a rather young team a year ago.

Among the returning players to watch are a sextet of seniors. Wes Davis is a 200 lb RB-LB. 215 lb Kelton Barrett and 230 lb Jeremiah Slattery are mainstays on both sides of the line.

Damontay Phillips will play wide receiver and linebacker. Anthony McConnell is in the backfield going both ways, and Shevin Martin is a RB-LB.

On offense, expect the Indians to run a multiple I. The defensive scheme is a base 3-4.

Pratt graduated a strong senior class last year, and there have been some injuries/ illness dogging the Greenbacks in the preseason. With a bunch of new starters on both sides of the ball, and with veteran depth a key concern given the small numbers in this year's senior class, Pratt may be going into their contest with Larned with their hands fuller than what some forecasters are thinking.

The Frogs should be favored, but Larned always finds a way to get 'up' when they play Pratt.

The kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m. at Zerger Field.
