PHS girls tennis played at Kiowa County Thursday.
In their final regular season tune-up, the Pratt High girls tennis squad played in the Kiowa County Invitational last week.
Julieann McClain got 4th in #1 singles and Vanessa Leckner/ Rachel Reichenberger took 3rd in #2 doubles to pace the Lady Greenbacks.
McClain swept through her Pool matches, dropping St John and Ellinwoo at love and besting Ashland 6-3. In bracket play, McClain was beaten 6-2 by Hughbanks of South Barber to drop into the third place game, where she fell in a rematch 6-4 to Ashland's Endicott. She ended the day 4th place in #1 singles.
#2 doubles team Leckner and Reichenberger began their day losing to St John 6-1, but then rallied to take down Ellinwood 6-2 and Ashland 6-1. In the semi-finals, they fell to Elliott/ Gleason of Meade in a tiebreaker, but then got past Ashlock/ Uhl 7-5 in the 3rd place game.
#2 singles player Erin Jackson lost to Ashland 6-4; bested St John 6-2; and fell to Ellinwood 6-3 in Pool play. With a 1-2 record, she did not advance to the bracket.
#1 doubles team Hailey Hewatt and Brynn Hampton had a bit of bad luck. They went 2-1 in pool play, dropping St John 6-4 and Ellinwood 6-3, but falling to Ashland 6-1. Three teams in their pool were 2-1, but Hewatt/ Hampton were denied the right to advance to the bracket due to the "percentage of games won" tiebreaker that was employed.
The Lady Green netters move into the post season this weekend as they play in the Central Kansas League Tournament held at Larned.
