It was a sweep for Lady Green as they won both ends of a triangular against Smoky Valley and host Hoisington on Tuesday. PHS dropped the Cardinals 25-18; 25-14 and the Vikings 25-15; 25-18.

Kierson Maydew led the offense against Hoisington with 9 kills. Makenzie Baird and Madison Craft each had 3.

Maydew, Baird, Jenna Fincham and Allisan McGowan each served an ace. McGowan had 13 assists; Fincham 6.

Defensively, Maydew had 4 blocks and Rheagan Hoover 2. Baird pulled up 10 digs, Kyra Johnson and Kieara Kaufman each had 7.

Against Smoky Valley, Maydew had 7 kills; Johnson 5 and Hoover 4. Johnson and Maydew each pounded 4 aces and Fincham and McGowan each added 2. McGowan (11) and Fincham (9) shared setting duties.

It was a bit of an unusual game defensively in that Lady Green recorded very few blocks, but had scads of digs. Johnson had 15 and Kaufman 11. Abby Lloyd and Baird each contributed 6. “Smoky didn’t hit much against us,” PHS head coach Summer Younie explained. “They tipped or went around the block a lot.”

“We didn't play great, but well enough to win,” Coach Younie summarized.

One concern for the Frogs going forward is service consistency. “We had 7 missed serves during the Smoky match, that's not good,” Younie lamented.  “We did the same thing against Hesston last week.”

The Greenbacks are entering a difficult stretch in their schedule as things begin to wind down toward the post season. “We're going to have to step up our level of play the next few weeks as we'll face Nickerson, Halstead, Kingman - all tough league matches; and Goddard and Valley Center the last week of play before Sub-State,” Younie mentioned.

Pratt will host Halstead and Nickerson in a triangular on Tuesday October 3. The Panthers are ranked #5 in 4Aii currently.

PHS improves to 16-10 on the season and are ranked #10 in 4Aii in the most recent coaches association poll.
