PHS volleyball went 1-2 at the Goddard Tournament on Saturday

It was tough sledding for the Pratt High volleyball team at the prestigious and challenging Goddard Tournament over the weekend. Going 1-2 in pool play, Lady Green failed to advance into the bracket.

Garden Plain dropped the Frogs 21-25; 17-25. Then host Goddard (5A #8-ranked) made short work of Pratt 14-25; 10-25. PHS did defeat Wichita North 25-19; 25-20 for their only win on the day.

Against North, Makenzie Baird had a nice game both offensively and defensively. She led the Greenbacks with 6 kills, and also added 3 digs and 8 service receives.

Other offensive leaders for Pratt included Rheagan Hoover with 5 kills and Kierson Maydew with 4. Maydew also baffled the Indians with 6 service aces. Allisan McGowan (8 assists) and Kami Theis (7 assists) shared setting duties for Lady Green.

Defensively, Dani Canaan had 3 blocks; Jenna Fincham had 3 digs; and Kieara Kaufman had 5 receives.

“We played better against North,” PHS head coach Summer Younie said. “We were without Kyra Johnson and we struggled with our passing, making it difficult to run our offense.”

“We made some lineup changes that I think we'll stick with for tomorrow night.” Younie added.

It will be Senior Night Tuesday when Pratt will play host to a pair of formidable opponents: Valley Center and a rematch with 4Aii #1-ranked Kingman who handled the Greenbacks at their place a week ago. Games start at 5 p.m.
