Kinsley defeated Skyline girls 52-28 at the 54 Classic in Cunningham.
The Lady Thunderbirds got off to a nice start over at Cunningham in the consolation semi-finals of the 54 Classic against Kinsley. Unfortunately, things went downhill after the opening period and Skyline fell to the Coyotes 52-28.
Gracie Bricker popped a trio of trifectas and Hallee Burgardt added a put-back as Skyline trailed just 15-11 after one stanza.
However, the T-Birds stayed on 11 a long way into the second quarter. In the closing minutes of Q2, Kailey Hamm hit a shot and Bricker drained another 3, but the Thunderbirds trailed 28-16 heading to the break.
Then the Coyotes doubled up Skyline 24-12 in the second half to win going away.
“We came out as well on offense as we ever have,” SHS head coach Morgan Ballard observed, “but we also came out about as soft on defense as we ever have, too. We had a chance to open up a lead in the first quarter but we gave up too many easy buckets.”
Skyline will play for 7th on Saturday at 2 p.m.
