The PHS baseball team has been making preparations for the State baseball tournament.

The Pratt High School baseball team will be the second seed in the 4A Division 2 State Baseball Tournament to be held Thursday and Friday at Salina’s Dean Evans Stadium.

The stadium is located on the eastern side of Salina at 851 Markley Road, in the vicinity of Salina Municipal Golf Course.

PHS head baseball coach Ron Hill has been holding practices on a schedule made a bit more complicated because of school being out.

“The kids are on a different schedule now,” Hill explained. “We’ve been holding practices around the time we’re going to play.” In the first round, that will be at 3:30 on Friday against Parsons.

“In our most recent practice, the kids were loose,” Hill said. “We did mostly hitting. We’ll pick up the intensity the next couple of days.”

Coach Hill knows that Parsons is a good ball club or they wouldn’t be in the State Tournament. He prefers to do the worrying about the opponent however, and let the Greenbacks concentrate on just taking care of their own business- playing their own game.

Coach Hill likes the way his pitching is looking. “I like our arms in a short tournament,” he said.

“I think we’ll do well,” Coach Hill concluded. “We’ll play hard. We just have to get past game one.”

There is a send-off for the team Thursday at 10:20 at PHS.
