Liberty Middle School had the winning team in 11 of 12 relay races at the Larned Middle School track meet on April 15.
Seventh Grade Boys
Pratt’s seventh grade boys relay teams were three-for-three on the day, winning each race by a wide margin.
In the 4X100 race, Tyler Foreman, Devin Roberts, Nathan Houdyshell and Dakota Venard’s winning time of 55.25 seconds was a full two seconds ahead of the runner-up team.
The foursome also won the 4X200 meter relay, this time with a time of 1:57 to easily defeat second-place Hoisington, which finished in 2:05.
Houdyshell and Roberts teamed up with Josh Ash and Ethan Sharp to win the 4X400 in 4:28, a full seven seconds in front of their closest challenger.
Pratt also had a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 75 meter hurdles. Brandon Ruckle won the race in 14.07 seconds while Roberts was second in 14.16. Ash finished third with a time of 14.49 seconds and Sharp was fourth in 14.57 seconds.
Ash and Sharp took second and third in the 1600 meter run with times of 5:45 and 5:47 respectively. Ruckle and Jacob Caldwell finished 2-3 in the high jump. Ruckle cleared the bar at four feet, six inches while Caldwell’s best clearance was at four feet, four inches.
Venard placed second in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet even, plus took third in the 100 meter dash in 14.10 seconds. Tyler Skaggs was third in the triple jump with a distance of 26 feet, six inches while Joe Loomis finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:43. Nick Koler added a third-place finish in the 200 meter dash in 30.01.
Seventh Grade Girls
The Lady Greenbacks swept their relay races, with Mary Shklar and Savannah Buntemeyer running on all three teams to help Liberty finish second with 60 points. Kennedy won the meet with 60.5 points and Larned was third with 59.5 points.
Pratt’s winning 4X100 meter relay team included Shklar, Buntemeyer, Reiley Perez and Paige Bailey. The foursome finished in 58.17 seconds, winning the race by nearly two full seconds.
Shklar, Perez, and Buntemeyer teamed up with Chloe Cannata to take first in the 4X200 meter relay in 2:07, while Shklar, Cannata, Buntemeyer, and Bailey ran the 4X400 race in 4:54 to win.
Bailey led a 1-2-3 finish in the 75 meter hurdles with a winning time of 14.33 seconds. Saige Twiner was second in 15.36 and Shklar was third in 15.48 seconds. Bailey also added a second-place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.64 seconds.
Samaria Kohman swept the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 68 feet, two inches. She also won the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 7.5 inches, while teammate Courtney Blankenship was second with a 23 foot, ten inch throw.
Eighth Grade Girls
Dakota Jones, Adele Loomis, Jensen Maydew and Amy Olson all won individual events to help the eighth grade girls team finish second with 75 points behind Kennedy’s 80 points.
Jones won the 75 meter hurdles, edging teammate Bailey Gillig at the finish. Their times were 15.06 seconds and 15.08 seconds.
Loomis was tops in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:48, a full five seconds ahead of the next runner.
Maydew won the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, three inches, and Olson topped the long jump field with a leap of 14 feet, one-quarter inch. That was nearly eight inches better than the runner-up’s best jump.
Christina Fernandez finished second in the 200 meter dash in 31.13 seconds while Breanna Doman as third in the 100 in 14.98 seconds.
Olson and Jaci Kolm took second and third in the triple jump, with Olson leaping 30 feet, 2.5 inches and Kolm finishing with a jump of 27 feet, 11 inches.
Loomis and Lauren Rambat went 2-3 in the 1600 meter run with times of 6:26.40 and 6:26.70.
Maydew was third in the discus with a toss of 73 feet, 1.5 inches, while Jones cleared four feet, two inches for third in the high jump.
Kolm, Olson, Fernandez and Doman won the 4X100 meter relay in 57.59 seconds, while Kolm, Jones, Gillig and Doman had a winning time of 2:04 in the 4X200 relay.
Pratt’s 4X400 team of Gillig, Doman, Fernandez and Olson easily won their race in 4:43.
Eighth Grade Boys
Thanks to a pair of winning relays and two individual wins by Mac Callaway, the eighth grade boys were a close third place finisher in the team standings. Kennedy won the meet with 80 points while Larned had 71 and Pratt finished with 64.
Callaway won the 100 and 200 meter dashes with a time of 12.47 seconds in the 100 and 25.96 seconds in the 200. He teamed up with Ryan Landry, Christian Kurz, and Cesar Regalado to win the 4X100 meter relay in 52.44 seconds.
Regalado combined with Shawn Ramos, Liam Kahmeyer and Drew Dobbs to win the 4X400 meter relay in 4:15, a full eight seconds ahead of the second-place team.
Dobbs had a pair of second-place finishes in his individual events. He ran the 800 in 2:33 and triple jumped 32 feet, two inches to claim second in those events, plus took third in the 1600 meter run in 6:01.
Kurz and Ramos finished second and third in the 75 meter hurdles with times of 13.52 seconds and 13.53 seconds respectively.
Ramos was third in the triple jump with a leap of 31 feet, ten inches, while Kahmeyer and Josh Shumway tied for third in the high jump after clearing the bar at four feet, ten inches.
Brett Forshee picked up a third place finish in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, two inches.
