The track season for the Skyline Middle School boys and girls came to an end with a good showing at the Heart of the Plains League meet hosted by South Barber Middle School. The eighth-grade girls claimed the league championship. The seventh-grade boys placed fourth, while the eighth-grade boys finished fifth in their meet.
Both the SMS coaches, Heike Beeson for the girls, and Lori Anschutz for the boys were pleased with the season and the improvements made through this final meet.
“We had a great season,” Beeson said. “All of our athletes worked hard throughout the season and it showed in the final results. We are very proud of them and their achievements this year.”
Anschutz echoed those same sentiments about her boys’ teams.
“We had a great year. We would have probably won a few more meets had we just had more boys out,” she said.” Throughout the season, every boy on the team placed for us, earning points. We had a great showing at league with some good competition.”
Two new HOPL records were set by Skyline in the seventh-grade boys meet. Blake Lee set new league marks in the discus, 109’ 10”, and in the shot put, 40’ ½”. Lee shattered both records by two feet.
