The Pratt Community College womens basketball team hung around for a while, but No. 15 Hutchinson eventually pressed their way to a 92-42 win last night in Hutchinson.
For just about the entire first 38 minutes of the contest, Hutchinson applied full-court pressure that proved difficult to handle for PCC.
The Beavers battled through it early, and trailed 11-7 when Corinna Hoyt buried a three at the 13:58 mark of the first half, but Hutchinson scored seven straight points to open up some breathing room before Jazmine Bell hit a three at the 10:56 mark.
Phylicia Freeman got a layup with 9:55 left to make it 20-12 Hutch, but the Dragons responded with an 11-0 run to open up a 31-12 lead with 6:30 left in the half.
It was downhill from there, as Hutchinson continually stretched the lead to as many as 53 points with five minutes remaining.
The lead was 89-36 when Hutchinson pulled the press for good with 2:09 on the clock, having scored 44 points off Pratt’s 33 turnovers.
Pratt did get two players in double figures as Freeman finished with 14 and freshman Laramie Lawrence scored all 12 of her points in the second half. Freeman and Lawrence each handed out two assists.
Bell chipped in eight points, three assists and seven rebounds.
Hoyt, Lawrence, and Dashia Williams each finished with two steals.
Pratt (4-25, 3-12 West) will finish the regular season Saturday by hosting Barton County (13-15, 6-9) in a 6 p.m. contest at the Beaver Dome.
PCC will open the Region VI Tournament at either Cowley (19-9) or Coffeyville (21-9) depending on Cowley’s Saturday game against Neosho County.
