The Pratt Community College baseball team picked up two wins yesterday against Brown Mackie, improving to 2-1 on the season.
PCC started the day with a 10-2 win in the first game at Stanion Field.
The Beaver hitters banged out nine hits from nine different players. Pratt broke open a 1-1 tie with a four-run third inning.
They added one run in the fourth and the runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Beaver pitchers gave up one run in the first and one run in the seventh. In between, they threw up five scoreless innings, including a scoreless second inning by starter Caleb Hartman and a scoreless third by Justin Axman (1-0), who picked up his first collegiate win.
Montana Prim pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth and Blake McMullen pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
Travis Sanders had two RBIs and the Beavers got two runs each from Aaron Beil and Zach Sell.
Freshman Jake Strecker — a former Pratt Greenback — had an RBI as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning.
Cody Passmore and Trey DeRouen each had a double while Prim and McMullen struck out two batters each.
The Beavers concluded the sweep with a 9-3 win in the second game.
PCC trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning before they scored three runs to tie the game.
Joe Kornbrust and Beil led off the inning with walks before Sell singled in Kornbrust.
Beil and Sell then pulled off their second double steal on the day as Beil stole third and Sell stole second.
Matt Burns followed with a groundball to shortstop to score Beil. Kyle Wells then singled to center to score Sell and tie the game at 3-3.
The Beavers added a run in the fourth to make the score 4-3, and put the game away with a five-run fifth inning.
The Pratt pitchers did their part by throwing up scoreless innings in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
PCC’s pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts and just one base on balls.
Edgar Melendez was the starting pitcher, and pitched two scoreless innings while striking out four Lion batters.
Josh Goodman (1-0) pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings and struck out four to secure his first collegiate win.
