Pratt Community College saw its baseball season end with a 10-3 loss to Allen County in the Region VI Sub-Regional Tournament at Johnson County Community College. The Beavers lost the first game of the double-elimination tournament to Johnson County 9-0.
The Beavers, out of the playoffs the past two seasons, had the task of facing Johnson County, the top-seed from the Jayhawk East. After a scoreless top half of the first for PCC, the Beaver defense failed to execute as they committed an error and allowed a sacrifice bunt to go for a hit. JCCC took advantage with a base hit and sacrifice fly and took a 2-0 lead.
Johnson added single runs in the third and fifth but broke it open with five runs on four hits in the sixth.
The Beavers only generated four hits in the loss.
Facing elimination, the Beavers had another tough task in the No. 5 seed from the East, Allen County, who had lost to Hutchinson earlier in the day. The Red Devils jumped up 1-0 in the second but the Beavers responded with three runs in the third for a 3-0 lead.
But Allen took back the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a Beaver error, a hit batter and a Devil home run that gave ACCC the 4-3 lead. Allen scored four more in the sixth on four hits and a PCC error and finished the scoring with two in the eighth.
Pratt’s bats woke up in this game with eight hits but the defense committed five errors in the loss.
Pratt finishes the season with a record of 18-27.
