A solid defensive performance and a good half of offense helped the Pratt High School girls basketball team rout Chaparral 47-26 Saturday night in the 37th Annual Tournament of Champions at PHS.
That semifinal win sends the Lady Greenbacks into tonight’s championship game against St. John.
Saturday night, freshman Payton Hoeme and senior Ashton Neumann provided a strong 1-2 punch as they combined for 22 of Pratt’s 27 first-half points.
The Lady Greenbacks jumped out to an 11-9 lead after one quarter behind six points from Hoeme and four from Neumann.
The second quarter saw Pratt put the clamps down defensively, giving up just four points as they opened up a 27-13 halftime lead. Hoeme and Neumann each had six points in the quarter as they went five-for-six at the free throw line.
Pratt continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Chaparral 10-3 to take a 37-16 lead into the fourth quarter.
“Defensively, we played really well,” PHS coach Dean Rausch said. “Offensively, we played a good half.”
Hoeme led all scorers with 18 points while Neumann added 13 and Brooke Blankenship finished with eight.
Dominique Staats scored four points for the Lady Greenbacks, while Aubrey Hoover and Samantha Snell each had two.
PHS (5-8) will face top-seeded St. John (11-1) in tonight’s championship game, which will tip off at 8 p.m. in the PHS gym.
