The fourth ranked Pratt Greenbacks stayed unbeaten at 7-0 on Tuesday night as they were able to pull away from the very stubborn Haven Wildcats 58-42 in Central Kansas League play.

The Wildcats were able to handle the Greenback full-court pressure as they had a 3-point lead with a little more than three minutes left in the first quarter. B.J. Dean answered with a three-pointer a few seconds later and then scored again with 2:19 left in the first quarter to give Pratt a 10-8 lead, a lead they would never give up.

Micah Swank hit a three and Austin McClain got a basket to get the lead up to seven points and after a Haven score, Swank would get another basket to make it 17-10 after one quarter.

Garrett Smith came off the bench in the second quarter and hit three straight 3-point shots in a little over a minute to push the lead out to nine.

In the third quarter, Micah Swank poured in eight of his game-high 23 points.

Payson Maydew would almost get his second straight double-double as he finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

“Tonight we did a good job attacking the interior Haven’s defense,” Coach David Swank said. “We had numerous opportunities at the rim. Sometimes we didn’t always finish, but our spacing and movement was much better tonight. Defensively, Haven did a nice job handling our full-court pressure, but we played solid half-court defense and were able to challenge shots.  It was really a war tonight on the glass. Smith came off the bench and gave us a nice lift in the second quarter with three consecutive three-point shots.

“As always BJ, Micah, Dylan and Austin were warriors and really battled during the game. Austin and Dylan continue to do the little things that help our team be successful and I am so proud of their efforts this year.”

Friday the Greenbacks head to Hesston to take on the 5-3 Swathers who beat Nickerson on Tuesday 59-37.
