It wasn’t pretty but the Skyline girls pulled off a 29-15 victory over the Pretty Prairie Bulldogs Tuesday night.
Neither team could put an offense together in the first quarter with a 4-5 score at the end of the first session. Skyline’s first score came at 2:40 in the first quarter.
“We had no energy, no life,” said Coach Jimmy Lee.
Skyline did put 11 points on the board in the second quarter while holding the Bulldogs to just six points for a 15 to 11 half time lead.
The T-Bird defense improved in the second half holding the Bulldogs to just two points in the third quarter and two points in fourth quarter.
“The defense did what they had to do,” Lee said. “We kept the pressure on defense. We were jamming the paint. They executed the defense plan well.”
While the defense was improving, the offense continued to be sluggish, scoring eight points in the third quarter and six in the fourth for the 29-15 victory.
“I don’t know how we were ahead,” Lee said. “We didn’t execute and we weren’t rebounding.”
The offense just looked dead. They didn’t shoot well. Although he tried to get the team ready to play, it looked like the team went through a big let down after the exciting one point win over Ashland on Friday, Lee said.
Although Lee said he didn’t have the right game plan, a win was still a win even though it wasn’t a pretty one.
Kaitlyn Stark led all scorers with eight points with Morgan Flowers and Anna Petrowsky adding seven points each. Janessa Davis had four points and Alyssa Swonger had three.
