The post-season begins next week for Class 4A basketball teams, and both Pratt High School squads will open sub-state play against teams they’ve already beaten this year.
Kingman boys at Pratt
7 p.m. Tuesday
Pratt’s boys (18-2) are the top seed in the Kingman sub-state, and they’ll host the Kingman Eagles (3-16) in a Tuesday night quarterfinal.
That game will tip off at 7 p.m. in the new PHS gym, also known as the Swamp.
Earlier this month, the Greenbacks won 61-34 in Kingman as they forced 24 Eagle turnovers and limited Kingman to 32 percent shooting (9-for-28) on the night.
In that game, Pratt got 16 points on six-of-eight shooting from Matt Swank while Micah Swank added 11 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Nine Pratt players scored in the game as the Greenbacks broke it open with a 14-0 run in the first quarter.
PHS has won six straight games and 14 of their last 15, earning the number eight spot in this week’s Hutchinson News rankings for Class 4A
Pratt girls at Ulysses
6 p.m. Monday
The Lady Greenbacks (7-12) earned the fifth seed and will travel to fourth-seeded Ulysses (11-9) for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal Monday night.
Pratt beat the Lady Tigers 37-35 in overtime on Jan. 15.
In that game, Aubrey Hoover had 11 points and seven rebounds while seniors Brooke Blankenship (10 points, seven rebounds) and Ashton Neumann (10 points, two assists, two steals), and freshman Payton Hoeme (eight rebounds, four blocks, two assists) were also big contributors.
PHS held Ulysses to 26 percent shooting on the night and took advantage of 15 Lady Tiger turnovers.
Other first-round games
The girls bracket also includes top-seeded Cheney (20-0) hosting eighth-seeded Hugoton (3-16) while second-seeded Colby (14-6) hosts seventh-seeded Kingman (5-14), and third-seeded Scott City hosts sixth-seeded Clearwater (7-12).
On the boys side, fourth-seeded Ulysses (11-8) will take on fifth-seeded Hugoton (7-13) while second-seeded Cheney (17-3) meets seventh-seeded Clearwater (5-14) and third-seeded Scott City (14-5) hosts sixth-seeded Colby (7-13).
Boys semifinal games will take place Thursday in Kingman, with the girls semifinals scheduled for Friday evening.
The girls championship will tip off at 6 p.m. Saturday, with the boys title game set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at KHS.
