In a year that left the Pratt Greenbacks with disappointments on the scoreboard, there have been some bright spots, including advancing to a first-round playoff berth and the placement of seven football players on Central Kansas League South Division teams.
Kasey Crump was a first team selection at both offensive and defensive lineman.
“Kasey was an anchor to our defensive line and worked very hard to get this award,” Coach Forrest Mazey said. “When he got injured you could definitely feel a presence lost in our interior defensive and offensive lines. I think Kasey will have an opportunity to play college football and wish him the best.”
Krump averaged 4.3 tackles per game, 26 on the season and made two sacks.
Austin McClain, returning to the program after some time off, earned honorable mention as a wide receiver.
“He continued to get better every week and ended up being the second leading receiver on the team at year’s end,” Mazey commented. “He was a hard worker in the weight room and on the field. I loved watching him grow and mature into a football player every week.”
McClain rushed for 11 yards and received for 378, scored three touchdowns and made 26 tackles.
Junior Skylar Dean is a first team wide receiver.
“Skylar is a very good athlete with tremendous potential that he’s just beginning to tap,” Mazey said. “Look for good things from Skylar in the future.
He gained more than 500 yards for the Greenbacks, scored four touchdowns and made 29 tackles.
Junior Austin Gates received honorable mention as a defensive lineman.
“Austin is big, strong and fast and that is a good combination for a defensive lineman,” Mazey said. “I look forward to his progression and seeing what he develops into.”
Gates made 56 tackles and three sacks.
Jarod Gilmore, also a junior, was a first team linebacker.
“Jarod really came on late in the year and became a really good linebacker. He played a lot of D-line last year, and made the permanent switch for us this season and grew into the role of our leading linebacker. He returns next year and I look for him to pick up where he left off.”
He made 65 tackles and one touchdown.
Dylan Besser is a first team wide receiver and the leading receiver for the Greenbacks, with 605 yards and 8 points for the year, in addition to 37 tackles.
“I look for Dylan to play college somewhere and look forward to seeing him grow into a more complete receiver as his career progresses,” Mazey said.
B.J. Dean is a first team quarterback and defensive back.
“B.J. was our team leader and the guy we depended on to get us in the right situation,” Mazey said. “He was our total offense (2619 yards rushing, receiving and passing and 64 points) and tackle leader (104) this season and he also broke a few school records. B.J. will have an opportunity to play college football and I can’t wait to see where he lands.”
