The Pratt Lady Greenbacks were able to come back from a 13-point deficit to beat CKL opponent Hesston Swathers 34-33 and improve their record to 6-2.

Amy Olson answered a 3-point shot from Hesston with one of her own early in the game to tie it at three. The Swathers would then go on a 10-point run over the next four minutes and the Greenbacks would be in a big hole. Aubrey Hoover stopped the run with a free throw at the 2 minute mark and another one a minute later.  She scored a field goal with 10 seconds left in the quarter to get Pratt within eight points.

The Swathers started the second quarter by outscoring the Greenbacks 9-1 in the first four minutes to open a 24-8 lead which was the biggest of the night. Hoover hit a three and Jenson Maydew got a basket and Pratt pulled within 13 points.

The second half turned into a much different game as Dominique Staats was able to settle down her teammates.

“She did a yeoman’s job running the offense,” Coach Dean Rausch said.

Hoover started the scoring just 35 seconds into the half and Staats added a free throw 40 seconds later but Hesston would score to put them up by 12 points a minute and a half into the third quarter.

Maydew started a Greenback run with a free throw and Hoover added a 3-point shot and a pair of free throws and Pratt would be back in the game trailing by only 6. The two teams then traded scores but Maydew got a basket with 26 seconds left in the quarter to pull Pratt with in five at 31-26.

Maydew scored the first four points of the fourth quarter for Pratt but those points sandwiched a Hesston basket and the Greenbacks closed the gap to 3 points. Hoover got a pair of points with 3:32 left in the game to make the score 33-32 and she got two more of her game high 19 points at the 2:20 mark to give Pratt its first lead of the game.

The two teams would trade possessions but a huge steal by Martha Ramos with less than a minute left would preserve the hard fought victory.

Hoover added seven rebounds on the night and made 7 of 11 free throws.  Maydew scored nine points and Staats and Olson each added 3.

Tonight the Lady Greenbacks play host to the Dodge City Red Demons in a non-league game. The Demons are coming into this game having won two games last weekend as they beat Great Bend 25-22 and Wichita North on Saturday 41-31.
