The Pratt Community College Lady Beavers picked up their second Jayhawk West win on Saturday, beating the Barton Cougars in Great Bend 53-46. The men were not as fortunate as they fell to the 10th ranked Cougars 88-76.

The Lady Beavers trailed for the better part of the first half until Anna Leis got an offensive rebound and a lay-up and Pratt took their first lead 8:17 before halftime.

Barton tied the game with 2:26 left but Ashri Broadwater got a basket after an assist from Sarah Johnson and Ann Pauly drained a pair of free throws right before the break for a 4-point lead.

The second half the Cougars could never get closer than four points and the Lady Beavers were able to stretch the lead out to 15 points before hanging on for the 7-point win. Ann Pauly scored 18 points and Cari Guyton pulled down 12 rebounds.

The men scored the games first two points but Barton scored the next eight and Pratt stayed behind the rest of the game. Pratt kept the lead under 10 points during the opening period and were able to get within 3 on three separate occasions but trailed at halftime by eight.

The second half Barton got the lead into double digits, the biggest at 15 points just 2 1/2 minutes into the period. The Beavers worked to cut into the lead and with 8:44 left, were within four points but that would be as close as they could get.  Barton scored the next nine points before finally putting away Pratt by 12.

Five Beavers scored in double digits led by a game-high 25 points from Aaron Abram.

Wednesday the Beavers go to Colby to take on the Trojans who did not play on Saturday.  The Colby women are 2-5 in conference play and 6-15 overall. They lost to Barton 61-58 in their last game. The men are 5-2 in KJCCC play and 17-4 overall and they also lost to Barton 88-65.
