Pratt High School junior Luke Southard was upgraded to fair condition at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo., Thursday afternoon.
Southard, who sustained a closed head injury during last Friday's football game at Scott City, is conscious and able to speak to his parents. According to a report from Swedish Medical Center, one of Southard's first questions was about the score of the football game.
Swedish Medical Center also reported that as Southard continues to heal, he will undergo evaluation and begin plans for rehabilitation.
At tonight's football game against Clearwater, t-shirts with the slogan "We are One, Strength through Unity" and Southard's number 25, will be for sale with the proceeds going towards his medical expenses. Buttons are also expected to be sold at Zerger Field tonight as the Greenbacks look to honor Southard with a win.
PHS Activities Director Curtis Nightingale also reported that football cutouts to be hung in the hallways will also be for sale for $1, with proceeds going to the Southards.
During today’s pep assembly, a recorded message from Southard to the Greenbacks will be played, according to Nightingale.
