Pratt’s junior American Legion baseball team has won three straight games, including both ends of a doubleheader last night in Kingman.
Pratt also won the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Wichita Collegiate, sending the team into tonight’s home doubleheader against Kingman with a three-game winning streak.
Pratt 16, Kingman 1
Austin Barnard allowed just two hits in four innings of work as Pratt routed a short-handed Kingman team in yesterday’s opener.
Pratt got two runs in the first inning as B.J.Dean singled and scored on Jarod Gilmore’s RBI single.
With the bases loaded and one out, Gilmore came in to score on Easton Herring’s sacrifice fly to center field.
Kingman got its lone run on a solo home run in the bottom of the first, making it 2-1 Pratt.
In the second inning, Pratt exploded for eight runs on three hits, three walks, two errors, a fielders choice and a sacrifice fly.
Barnard got two strikeous and a ground out back to the mound in the bottom of the second, preserving the 10-1 lead after two innings.
Pratt tacked on four more runs in the top of the third and two in the fourth, giving Barnard plenty of run support.
The only hit Kingman managed in the final two innings was a third inning double by Kingman’s leadoff batter, but he was stranded at second and Kingman was retired in order in the bottom of the fourth to end the game.
Barnard sruck out six and walked one in picking up the win.
Pratt backed him with 12 hits, including three each by Tyler Forshee and Gilmore.
Herring finished with three RBIs while Skylar Dean, Forshee, Jarod Gilmore and Justin Gilmore each drove in two runs.
Pratt 13, Kingman 7
Pratt completed the sweep by taking advantage of their scoring opportunities in the second game. They got just eight hits but drew 12 walks and had one batter hit by a pitch.
Herring and Jamie Hitt each had two hits for Pratt. Hitt finished with four RBIs while Justin Schneider drove in three runs.
Pratt scored six runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth to come back from a 4-0 deficit and finish the sweep.
Wichita Collegiate 4, Pratt 0
On Saturday, Pratt dropped the first game of a doubleheader in Wichita 4-0 as they managed just two hits in the game.
Pratt 16, Wichita Collegiate 8
Pratt pounded out nine hits to go with 14 walks in the second game of the doubleheader.
Schneider and B.J. Dean combined to limit Collegiate to just six hits and seven walks in the contest.
Pratt (3-6) will host Kingman tonight at Smoky Ford Field. Games will begin at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
They will also host Little River at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday night at Smoky Ford Field.
