Heading into the final weeks of the regular season, both local high schools have a state-ranked team to be proud of.
The Skyline girls are ranked third in Class 1A by the Hutchinson News and the Wichita Eagle. SHS was 12-0 when the rankings were released, but the Lady T-birds improved to 13-0 with last night’s 48-15 win over Stafford.
South Gray (13-0) and Argonia (13-0) are ranked first and second by both papers, while St. John (12-1) moved up to fourth in the Hutchinson rankings and South Barber (12-1) is ranked fourth by the Wichita Eagle. St. Paul (13-0) rounds out the top five at both papers, while Central Christian (13-1), Weskan (10-2), Quivira Heights (11-1), South Barber and Beloit-St. Johns (13-1) are ranked sixth through tenth by the News.
Pratt’s boys (12-2) dropped to eighth in the Hutchinson rankings after a close loss to Dodge City (10-2, ranked fifth in Class 6A) Saturday.
Kansas City-Sumner (10-1), Topeka-Hayden (11-1), Clay Center (11-1), Ottawa (10-2) and Coffeyville (9-1) round out the News’s top five. Hayden, Basehor-Linwood (10-2), Ottawa, Sumner and Clay Center are the top five in the Wichita poll. Pratt is listed in the “Others” section of the Eagle’s rankings.
Both schools will have their Homecoming games Friday night.
