The Pratt Lady Greenbacks used a game high 21 points from the Most Valuable Player Aubrey Hoover to beat the previously unbeaten St. John Tigers 40-29 in the finals of the 39th annual Tournament of Champions.

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-point lead in the first two minutes of the game before Amy Olson got Pratt on the board.  Hoover tied the game midway through the opening quarter and then got the Lady Greenbacks the lead with just under three minutes left 6-4. The two teams would each get a free throw in the defensive minded game and Pratt led after one quarter 7-5.

Hoover got a conventional 3-point play a little over a minute into the second quarter but St. John scored the next five points in 30 seconds and the two teams were tied at 10.

Dominique Staats got a steal and a break away lay-up with 3:42 left in the quarter. St. John tied it again 21 seconds later before Hoover got a field goal and a pair of free throws for a 4-point Pratt lead.

The Tigers would get back within two points just under a minute before halftime but Martha Ramos got a big offensive rebound and put back with 12 seconds left to put Pratt ahead 18-14.

Hoover pushed the advantage out to five points with a free throw but the Tigers would get within 3-points, the closest they would get, with 4:43 left.  Hoover got the next five points for an 8-point lead but St. John got one more field goal and the Lady Greenbacks would lead 24-18 going into the final eight minutes.

Olson pushed the lead out to 10 points with two free throws and a field goal with five minutes left in the game. The Tigers cut the lead back to eight before Hoover and Whitney Tilley got baskets and Pratt had a 12-point lead with 3:37 left and the game was all but over.

The two teams would play even the rest of the way as the Lady Greenbacks would become the 2012 TOC Champions.

Hoover got a double-double as she added 11 rebounds and also had five steals. Dominique Staats, a member of the All-Tournament team had seven points. Olson added six and Ramos four. Payton Hoeme was also a member of the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Greenbacks are now 11-2 on the season and will go to Lyons on Tuesday night.  The Lyons Lions are 6-6 on the year but are coming off a championship run at the Little River Tournament in which they beat Ell-Saline 52-47 in the finals.
