Starting tomorrow night, some of the state’s top American Legion baseball teams will be vying for wins in the 2009 Smoky Ford Invitational at Smoky Ford Field in the Green Sports Complex.
The Pratt 86ers will be joined by teams from Alva, Okla., Augusta, Huchinson, Larned, Osawatomie, Princeton, and Russell.
Pool play will begin Thursday night with a 6 p.m. game between Alva and the Hutchinson Hawks.
At 8 p.m., the 86ers will take on the Hawks. Both those games are part of Pool A play, which will also includea 7:30 p.m. Friday game between the 86ers and Osawatomie, and the final three games on Saturday’s schedule.
Augusta, Larned, Princeton and Russell will make up Pool B, and four of their games will be played Friday with the final two set for Saturday morning and early afternoon.
On Sunday, the fourth-place finishers from each pool will meet in the seventh place game at 10:30 a.m. Third-place finishers (based on records through the first three games) will play for fifth place at 12:45 p.m. with the second place finishers in each pool meeting for third place at 3 p.m.
The championship game will feature the Pool A winner and the Pool B winner. It is set to begin at 5:15 p.m. Sunday.
