Rangers squeak past Larned, 5-4

Brett Forshee’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Tyler Steinert and lifted the Pratt Rangers past the Larned Panthers 5-4 in the first game of yesterday’s doubleheader at the Green Sports Complex.
The teams were knotted at four runs each after four innings, and Pratt relief pitcher Adam Bartel struck out the side in the top of the fith.
But the Rangers could only manage an infield single by Drake Evert in the bottom of the fifth, forcing an extra inning.
Bartel allowed just one baserunner in the top of the sixth, as the Rangers did not allow a run to score.
To start the bottom of the sixth, Steinert walked, then advanced to second on a great sacrifice bunt by Brandon Ruckle.
With one out, Dakota Venard was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Forshee’s game-winning hit.
Larned took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to two errors, two walks and a hit, but Pratt came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Steinert reached on an error and with two out, Venard sent a fly ball over the right fielder’s head and turned it into a two-run home run.
With two outs, Blake Lee singled and Adam Bartel walked. They would both score on Drake Evert’s single to center field, putting the Rangers up 4-3.
The Rangers were held scoreless in the second, third and fourth innings as Larned got one run and tied the score at four.
Bartel picked up the win after replacing Forshee on the mound midway through the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, both teams did all their scoring in the first two innings as Larned took a 5-4 win.
The Rangers had their chances to come from behind in the bottom of the third, but squandered several chances.
Lee got on courtesy of an error, but was caught stealing second for the first out.
Bartel and Evert both walked, but Larned got two straight outs to strand both runners and end the time-limit game with a win.
