Coming off a conference win on Friday, the Pratt Community College women’s soccer team squared off in a non-conference match on Tuesday. This was PCC’s first contest at their temporary home pitch in Havilland, and the win moved them to 2-0 on the season.

The visiting Dodge City Lady Conquistadors were trying to get their first win of the season. Alycia Reed added to her season stats in the third minute as she scored an unassisted goal over the outstretched arms of the DCCC goalkeeper.  As the game began to settle, Dodge found its way onto the scoring sheet after a defensive miscue led to a one-on-one break in the 20th minute. Continued opportunities by the Lady Beavers eventually opened up an avenue for Nikki Sprinkle to get her first goal of the season. Sprinkle capitalized  in the 38th minute from nearly 30 yards out and PCC took that 2-1 lead into the intermission.

The second half was full of opportunities for both teams, while PCC controlled much of the possession. When the final whistle blew, PCC’s goalkeeper Corrin Cook had recorded two saves and the Lady Beavers had claimed their second win in two games.

“The team played extremely hard,” said Head Coach Jerrid Schicke. “There was a lot of grit, determination, and resilience shown on the pitch. This is the second straight game we have given up a 1-0 lead and come back to win. I’m excited about our progress, but even more excited about the areas for improvement we still have. This shows our group still has opportunity to gain strength as the season continues.”
