The Pratt Lady Greenbacks could not overcome a 2-point second quarter as they dropped their third game of the year to the Lyons Lions 52-47.
The Lady Greenbacks, playing without leading scorer Aubrey Hoover because of sickness, would battle all night as a 3-point basket by Dominique Staats gave Pratt an early lead at 5-4. Whitney Tilley got a bucket that was sandwiched between Lyons scores but Staats scored again and Pratt was back on top 9-8 with 3:17 left in the opening quarter.
Jenson Maydew scored a minute twenty later for an 11-8 lead. The Lions scored four points in 25 seconds to take back the lead but Paige Bailey scored and the Staats hit a shot with one second left in the quarter for a 15-12 lead.
Lyons started the second quarter on a 6-point run before Grace Fellhoelter got the only Lady Greenback points of the quarter at the 2:46 mark. Lyons got the last four points of the quarter and would lead 22-17 at half.
Maydew got the first Pratt points of the second half, after a Lyons score, and they were back within five points.
The Lions scored again before Amy Olson made a free throw and Staats hit a pair of them and Pratt was within 26-22 at the four minute mark. A 6-point run by Lyons over the next two minutes got the lead to double figures.
Maydew got a basket and one and with two minutes left in the quarter they were within 7. Maydew got two more free throws and Haylie Hook hit a three and the Lady Greenbacks closed the gap to 32-30 with 49 seconds left in the quarter. Lyons would get two baskets and the Greenbacks two free throws and the two teams entered the 4th quarter with Lyons up 36-32.
After a Lions 3-point make Tilley and Martha Ramos each got a field goal and a minute and a half into the final quarter Pratt was back within three. Staats scored 15 seconds later and then with 6:01 left Maydew made two more free throws and the Lady Greenbacks led 40-39.
Lyons scored the next five points but Hook hit another three to pull Pratt back to within one point at 3:42. Maydew hit four free throws in the next two minutes but the Lions also scored four points during this stretch. Looking for a steal but needing to stop the clock, the Greenbacks were forced to foul and Lyons made four free throws to ice the game.

“I really liked her effort and intensity and she played good defense,” Coach Dean Rausch said of Maydew.
Staats scored 11 points along with five steals and Rausch added, “Dominique had a very solid game, running the team and providing some good offense to go along with her always solid defense.”
Maydew had the team high in rebounds with 8, Tilley had seven boards, and Ramos 5.
This Friday the Lady Greenbacks will host the Nickerson Panthers. The Panthers are 1-12 on the year. The Greenbacks, now 11-3 overall, beat Nickerson 50-28 on Dec. 20th.
