Skyline grade school students took a unique trip through the human body and learn proper nutrition for their bodies during the Body Venture event at Skyline.

The tour, made possible through the Child Nutrition & Wellness and Kansas Department of Education, includes a maze that takes the students through various stations where they learn about the functions of the human body and good health practices.

At each station students sit on the floor while a community volunteer tells them the function of a particular body part while reading a big flip card system that features pictures.

Some stations include props such as large teeth used for seats in the mouth along with large dental floss, a small skeleton replica in the bone section and a small skull that opens to reveal the brain in the brain section.

Other sections include the skin, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, muscles and the lunchroom.

At each station students are asked questions about that particular part of the body and told what they need to do to make sure each body part works properly.

Body Venture was set up in the small gym at Skyline and was manned with community volunteers. Besides the tour through the body, students also have associated classroom activities and get information and activities to take home and share with their parents.
