Years ago, I worked at a newspaper in Chickasha, Oklahoma which, at the time, had a short column on the front page entitled 'We saw.” It basically mentioned people in the community and where newspaper staff members saw those persons and what the people were doing at the time.
On Tuesday evening, Mike Tibbetts and Aaron Jorns joined Kathie and I on a bicycle ride southeast of town and at Lemon Park. On the ride, which included supper at Arby's, I was surprised at how many people I saw that I knew.
So in the spirit of that long ago column, WE SAW, while riding bicycles:
Tammy Gordon waving and smiling at us as we headed down the county road just south of the lake. Not long thereafter, we saw her husband, Dr. Scott Gordon, turning in the same direction as Tammy in his truck.
Gale Rose giving us a friendly beep as he passed our group of four.
Mary Brehm turning off of Sixth Street onto Country Club Road, heading for home.
Steve Hedrick out walking Ricci Bobby at Lemon Park.
Greg Vratil turning out of the Green Sports Complex on his motorcycle.
Nikki Pretorius (director of nursing at Stafford District Hospital) out enjoying a meal at Arby's with her family.
Daniel (whose last name I can't recall) also out having supper at Arby's. Daniel used to work at the recycling center.
It's a neat experience to go into your small community and recognize not only faces but also many of the names of those whose paths have crossed yours often enough that you are familiar with who they are.
