Scripture: 1Timothy (NIV) 6:17 Command those who are richin this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, whichis so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us witheverything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in gooddeeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay uptreasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that theymay take hold of the life that is truly life.
Observation: Fourcommands for people with wealth: First,be humble. Second, keep God as thesource of hope. Third, do good, oftenand in every way you can. Fourth, useyour wealth to bless others.
Will doing this buy their way into heaven? NO! But doing this will insurethey have treasures awaiting their arrival in heaven. NOTE: IfI want my money to become a treasure in heaven, I must give it away or use itfor the benefit of others.
The true life from God is a life of giving. God is such a giver, no wonder those in whom He dwells find themselvesinclined to give.
Application: Planningand making commitments help me be faithful in giving. I also enjoy having resources available torespond to unexpected opportunities to give. It is good to have some extra food in the cupboard or cash in the pocketjust for the purpose of giving.
Prayer: HeavenlyFather, you are a giver and you are working that grace in me. May I be a joyful giver. Amen
