Richard Layman Davis passed away Oct. 25, 2010, in Pratt.

R.L. was born July 18, 1926, in Spearville to Lorin Hasting Davis and Grace Layman Davis. He graduated from Attica High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was in V-12 officers training in Park College, Kansas City, Mo., and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He was stationed in Washington, D.C. and worked in officers’ records at the Navy Annex.

He was united in marriage to Bobbie Jean Cook on Oct. 20, 1945, at the Hardtner United Methodist Church in Hardtner. Richard and Bobbie had four children: Rick, Connie, Roger and Joy.

He managed grain elevators in Attica, Harper, Duquoin, Marquette, McPherson and Netawaka. He retired from the grain business in 1993 and started his own business in Pratt. He loved K.U. basketball, his volunteer work at Pratt Community College and his summers in Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alan Lee Davis and daughter-in-law, Peggy Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Davis, Pratt; his sister, Donna Albright, Hutchinson; two sons, Rick Davis and wife Vicki, Pratt, and Roger Davis, Lawrence; daughters, Connie Kowalsky and husband Tom, Grand Junction, Colo., and Joy Helmer and husband Gerald, Hardtner. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
