Annette J. Jay, 95, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt.

She was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Conway Springs, the daughter of Jay and Lola Krebs Rathburn. She was a graduate of Conway Springs High School and Friends University in Wichita where she was a member of the Singing Quakers.  She taught school in Bucklin, and then married Clarence S. Jay on Feb. 5, 1944, in Norfolk, Va.

After the war she and her husband operated a dry cleaning business in Bucklin for nine years. In 1955 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a short time and then in1955 moved to Long Beach, Calif. Annette worked at Buffums Department Store as manager of shipping and repairs.

In 1968 they returned to Colorado Springs and then moved to Pratt in July of 1980.

She belonged to the First Christian Church, Pratt, was a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, American Association of University Women and Pratt Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

She is survived by a special niece, Terryl Henderson and her husband Randy, Pratt; their children and grandchildren, Jason and Kirstan Henderson, Aubree, Ayleigh, Atley and Trey, of Wichita; Zackery and Kiley Henderson, Allyson, Jaxon, and Joley, Wichita; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 20, 1980, her parents, a brother, Louis Rathburn, and a sister Pauline Meils.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the mortuary with Dr. Dan Ferguson and John Havens presiding. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to South Wind Hospice, Lemon Park Lights, or Pratt Regional Medical Center all in care of the mortuary.
