The 30th Judicial District Nominating Commission has selected Richard N. Raleigh, Barber County Attorney, as District Magistrate Judge to succeed Judge Matthew Lynch, who has retired.

Raleigh was selected following public interviews conducted in Medicine Lodge Thursday.

He has been county attorney continuously since 1987, and also served in that capacity from 1975 to 1981. A 1973 graduate of the Washburn University School of Law, Raleigh also has maintained a private practice in Medicine Lodge since obtaining his law license that year.

Raleigh has served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital and as a past president of the Indian Peace Treaty Association.

His appointment will be effective upon his swearing-in.
