The Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt Community College will display the work of Fred Lassmann as the featured exhibit during the month of October. Lassmann is a native Kansan, born in Wichita and raised in rural Butler County, where he resides with his wife, Kathy. After graduating from Augusta High School, he attended El Dorado Junior College and Wichita University.

"Seeing beyond seeing," from the book "The Tao of Photography," defines the philosophy of his art. His understanding of light and the technical aspects of the medium are evident when viewing his images.

His interest in photography began in 1962 with a purchase of a Nikon F 35mm camera. His education in photography continued to grow by learning advanced photographic techniques and darkroom processes while pursuing a career in aviation.

When an opportunity to purchase the local photography studio in Augusta was presented, Lassmann interrupted his aviation career. He and his wife owned and operated the studio from 1973 to 1983. Lassmann returned to Cessna in 1979 and spent most of the next 30 years in Citation Customer Service. While extensive traveling required placing his photography on hold, the passion was never lost. Retiring from Cessna in 2009, Lassmann now spends quality time pursuing the art of photography.

Lassmann has shown his work at "Final Friday Art Crawl" events in Wichita, The Photographers' Gallery in the Delano District of Wichita, The Augusta Arts Council in Augusta, Art on the Town in El Dorado, Kan., and The Art Room in El Dorado. His work is currently featured at L'image in Towne East Square in Wichita, McMullen Jewelry in Lincoln Heights in Wichita and Fine Art America.
