At an arrival ceremony Wednesday on the Atlantic City boardwalk, where the Miss America Pageant began, finalists for the Quality of Life Award were announced. Miss Kansas Amanda Sasek, whose platform is Find Your Strength: Engage to Empower, was among the 10 finalists.

The Quality of Life Awards were introduced in 1988 to recognize contestants who excel in their commitment to community service. These awards recognize those contestants who shine in their involvement with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the national platform of the Miss America Organization, and their own personal platform issue.

The winner of the Quality of Life Award will receive a $6,000 scholarship, the first runner-up will win a $4,000 scholarship, and the second runner-up will win a $2,000 scholarship.

Competition for the title begins on Monday and the final performance will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 on ABC.
