The Kansas Gold wrestling team traveled to Justin, Texas over the weekend for the Mid Summer Mat Bash. The team is composed of the best wrestlers in the state and was coached by Baldwin High School head coach Kit Harris. Pratt had two wrestlers make the team with Dylan Pelland finishing with a record of 9-3 and Logan Baird finishing with a record of 7-5.

There were 24 teams from across the country represented in the tournament. The Kansas Gold team took charge on day one of the tournament, finishing 7-0 with wins over South Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska and several Texas teams. Their day one performance earned them a spot in the gold pool for day two where they faced teams from Florida, Nebraska, St. Louis and South Dakota.

Day One Team Results: Pelland finished undefeated at 7-0 and with Baird holding a 6-1 record.

Day two was a little tougher for the Kansas boys. The Gold team was able to pull out a come from behind victory over Nebraska. Mikel Cottnmyre from Belleville, won the final match 4-0 to pull the Kansas team ahead 29-26. The win over Nebraska put Kansas Gold at 10-0 with two matches left. They would split the final two matches to finish with an 11- 1 record and clinching third place. Baird finished the tournament with a 7-5 record while Pelland went 9-3.

"The trip was awesome," Baird said. "Lots of great people. Great wrestling. For sure a great time. I thought I did good on the mat, ran into a few kids that I just couldn't get past but that's part of the sport."

The team did have time on the way home to visit the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.
