Earth moving for Ottawa’s new development park is drawing closer.

A groundbreaking ceremony set for 10 a.m. July 27 at the site of Proximity Park, 2542 Montana Road, Ottawa, according to a press release. A program and reception follows at Ottawa Municipal Airport, 2178 Montana Road, Ottawa.

“Proximity Park is going to be a huge asset to both the City of Ottawa and Franklin County,” James Oltman, executive director of the Franklin County Development Council, said. “It will allow us to be extremely competitive when it comes to business attraction opportunities. We’d love to see a large crowd of community members attend.”

In December 2014, the city of Ottawa, Franklin County and the development council announced the purchase of 303 acres south of I-35 bordered by Kingman and Montana roads for a new business development park.

In September 2015, Ottawa residents voted to renew the city’s half-cent sales tax, a revenue stream that accounts for about 9 percent of the city’s general operating fund, and add an additional half-cent sales tax for economic development.
