PRATT — Calvin Ray “Bill” Kennedy, 93, moved into eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie.

He was born May 28, 1924 on the family farm near Sayre, Oklahoma to Henry G. and Margie (Webber) Kennedy. The family moved to Sawyer when Bill was three years old.  He attended school up to the 8th grade at Tennessee Rural School.  Then he farmed with his dad and brothers.

He met Gladys Randall at a German Baptist Young Folks get-together and they were married on April 20, 1946 in Pratt before she graduated high school. After she finished high school, they told their friends they were married.  They lived in a small house in Sawyer, where Bill was a mechanic and school bus driver and in the summer they were “suit case farmers” in western Kansas.  He also worked as a finish carpenter.  He and Gladys became parents of twins Kenneth and Karen in 1948.  In 1957 Bill was able to rent some farm ground near Isabel.  Also in 1957 a baby boy, Andy was born.  In 1961 Kathy was born to this union.

Bill enjoyed his years of farming and raising livestock.

Bill and Gladys didn’t travel much but they did enjoy the Kennedy Family Reunions each year.

Bill and Gladys moved from the family farm to Pratt in 1993 but he continued to go to the farm and help their son Andy with the farming.

They celebrated 71 wonderful years together.

Bill enjoyed helping others.  He helped County Agent Steve Kraisinger with getting things ready for the Pratt County Fair.  Steve often said Bill was his best right hand man. He worked on the Sawyer Christian Church. He served on the Sawyer and Isabel Co-op boards.

Bills happiest moments were spent with his wife and family and helping his two sons with the harvest.  His saddest moment was holding his youngest daughters hand as she died of cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; children, Ken (Jean) Kennedy of Salina, Karen and (Kenneth) Blackwelder of Hutchinson and Andy (Cindy) Kennedy of Isabel; son in-law, Lyle Miller of Grandview, Missouri; brothers, Lee (Cheryl) Kennedy of Springfield, Missouri and Glenn (Marlene) Kennedy of Knob Noster, Missouri; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Miller; granddaughter, Reneé Miles; brother, Paul Kennedy; sister in-law, Charlene Kennedy; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Kennedy and Norma Jean Kennedy.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt.  A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt with John Hamm presiding.
