TOPEKA — Daniel Lee McGinnis, 68, of Topeka, KS passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 21, 2018 at his home. He was born August 23, 1949 in Manhattan, KS, the son of Dale M. and Lenita E. (Arnold) McGinnis.

Dan graduated from Pratt High School in 1967 and attended Pratt Junior College. He proudly served in the Army National Guard. Dan was a salesman for Hummert International; selling greenhouses across the state of Kansas for over 22 years.

He was a former member of DeMolay International and enjoyed volunteering for many years with the Kansas State University Horticulture Department, sharing his passion for gardening.

Dan married Barbara Ellen Baxter on July 4, 1970 in Soldier, KS. They shared over 47 years of marriage. Barbara survives of the home. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Brandi Wells (Richard) of Topeka, KS and Heather Morrow of Orlando, FL; 2 sisters, Leah Cole (Tim) of Edmond, OK and Linda Woodruff (Warren) of Topeka, KS; 2 brothers, Doug McGinnis (Connie) of Broken Arrow, OK and Don McGinnis (Jean) of Topeka, KS and 5 grandchildren, Trinity, Ainsley, Cooper, Delaney and Arik. He was a proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.  His love of family extended to friends who became family.        

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until service time. Memorials may be given to the Daniel McGinnis Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
