A Dodge City man, Pedro Acobes, was uninjured after he lost control of his car at high speed and hit a light pole on the highway in front of Walmart.
A Dodge City man escaped injury after crashing into a light pole on East U.S. 54 by Walmart.
Pedro Acobes, 32 of Dodge City, was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed in 2002 Volkswagen on East U.S. 54 when he lost control and struck a light pole, knocking it approximately 50 feet. The Volkswagen then entered the south ditch and spun around several times before barely missing a large rock at the Walmart entrance, crossing Fincham Street and coming to a stop in the ditch on the east side of Fincham, facing west, said Sheriff ’s Deputy Tate Rosenbaum.
The Volkswagen traveled 348 feet from the point of impact.
Acobes was not injured in the accident. But he was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. His bond was $500 and he was released an hour and a half after being booked. The accident was around 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 7.
Acobes is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
