Individual successes and a fourth-place finish for the Pratt High Girls Golf team made for a successful first meet of the season.

The Lady Greenback golf team traveled to Nickerson for an invitational on August 28 for their first meet of the season and placed fourth as a team overall.

Greenback senior Aubrey Meyers started her season off well, leading the team with a 4th place finish and aiming to qualify for state this fall like she did last season.

With 11 golfers on the roster and only seven of them being returners, head coach Kerry Thieme said that it will be a great year for learning and with the season goal being set at qualifying for state as a team, the lady greenbacks will have some new skills to learn.

"Overall, they played well but we need to work on our short game and putting still," said assistant coach, Kyle Farmer. "We have the new girls so just trying to understand the basics of golf is important."

In gearing up for the one and only home meet of the season on September 10, Farmer said the team's main preparation will rely on getting familiar with the layout of the course and learning the techniques necessary to be successful.

In the next couple months, the golf team will face Nickerson, Medicine Lodge, Larned, Hesston, Cheney and Pretty Prairie before regionals and state are held.
