Mercy rule declares Skyline victory at half. 54-6
The sun was not the only thing bringing heat to the field Friday night as the Skyline football team easily swept the win during their first game of the season in Burrton on August 31 with a score of 54-6.
By the end of the first quarter, Skyline was in the lead with a score of 40-0.
The lead carried through the second quarter as the Thunderbirds scored an additional 14 points and Burrton scored 6 points, bringing the score to 54-6.
The game did not continue after the end of the first half and was mercy-ruled due to a 48 point lead, so Skyline was declared the winner.
In the months to come, Skyline will play Kiowa County, Attica/Argonia, Moundridge, Little River, Central Plains, Macksville and St. John- Hudson, so Skyline will have to keep up the energy throughout the season to advance past the competition.
With three seniors, nine juniors, nine sophomores and ten freshmen on the team, it will be a season for the upperclassmen to continue their leadership and for the underclassmen to gain the experience necessary for them to step into leadership roles.
The next home game will be on Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m. against Kiowa County.
