Girls varsity takes second; boys varsity squad wins first for the Thunderbirds.

The Skyline cross country team traveled to Camp Wa-Ja-To, just south of Lyons, Kansas, to participate in an invitational meet on Tuesday, September 25. The meet began with a 7th grade 1- mile race fol- lowed by an 8th grade 2- mile race. Angel Beckholdt, the only 7th grade runner, ran a 8:23 to get 8th place. The team’s only 8th grade girl, Kyanna Davidson, bested her previous record to post the new school record of 14:17 and earn 6th place.

Several personal bests were set in the high school division by boys and girls. Heidi and Hayley Roberts both set personal records with times of 22:28 and 22:32 to earn 4th and 5th. Riley Washington set a personal best as well with 28:09 along with Corey Crouch who ran a 31:47.
The girls placed 2nd out of 5 teams, the best placing the girls have gotten, outside of the league meet, in many years.

Two varsity boys runners ran personal records: Jackson Wallace and Jacob Swish- er with times of 17:58 and 18:54 to earn them 1st and 8th, respectively. The team swept up five of the top 20 spots to secured a 1st place finish. This is the first win for the team, outside of the league meet, in recent history.

The head coach, Mike Neifert, said he was pleased with how his runners are performing this year, especially after the Lyons meet.

“Our team’s number one goal is to have as many as possible qualify to run at the State Championships later this month,” he said, “To get there, we hope the boys team can pull off a first place finish at our Regional meet in Meade on Saturday, October 20.”
