The Skyline "Thunderbirds on the Prairie Car Show" will be Oct. 20 on the north side of the campus and just off U.S. 54. Several Thunderbird cars and many other makes and models are expected at the show.

Some extra Thunderbirds will be at Skyline in a week for the second annual “Thunderbirds on the Prairie Car Show” on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the school. This is a free event to the general public.

David Schmidt, event organizer, said following the success of the event in 2017, they hope for more entries and participation. They had 62 cars last year and the day started off very cold, it was just 38 degrees but the temperature warmed up and the crowds came out.

“It turned out very well,” Schmidt said.

The T-Bird Club out of Wichita has indicated they would be coming to the event that will be held in the grass lot on the northeast area of the Skyline campus.

Schmidt said there was a lot of positive feedback from the event that raised money for the Skyline Foundation.

Entry for the event is $25 and can be paid the day of the event. Registration starts at 8 a.m. with event starting at 10 a.m. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m. for the top place in several categories: Best in Show/Superintendent’s Choice, Thunderbird, Ford, Chevy, Mopar-Jeeps, Rat Rods, Trucks, Others, Vintage-pre 1950, People’s Choice. The Skyline FFA and Welding Class is making the trophies for the event.

Event t-shirts with Sky- line logo and event date will be on sale.

Every entrant that exhibits a vehicle will receive complimentary: Event dash plaque with Skyline logo and date; event t-shirt with Skyline logo and event date, raffle ticket towards donated merchandise; goodie bag with items donated by local merchants (possible items small tape measure, tire gauges, free ice cream at McDonalds, etc.

Local merchants will donate items for a raffle and for a silent auction.

Food vendors will be on hand including Jocko’s BBQ and the Pratt Community College “Beaver Bucks” trailer. Interested vendors should contact Schmidt at the school.

Anyone wanting to be an event sponsor should contact Schmidt at the school. Four levels of sponsor are available:

$100-receives name on back of commemorative event t-shirt;

$250-receives name on back of commemorative event t-shirt and a raffle ticket;

$500-receives name on back of commemorative event t-shirt, raffle ticket, two meal tickets, mentioned on public address system during event;

$1,000-receives name on back of commemorative event t-shirt, two raffle tickets, four meal tickets, mention on public address system during event and at final raffle drawing.
