Skyline’s high school cross country team competed in the Heart of the Plains League (HOPL) meet held Thursday, Oct. 11 in Pretty Prairie. The race was a bit different since the original location was underwater. The teams ran a course of paved streets, gravel drives, grass and dirt streets.
When all was said and done, both the girls and boys from Skyline earned championship plaques for their efforts, besting runners up Pretty Prairie on the girls side and Central Christian of Hutchinson on the boys side.
Eleven runners from Skyline posted personal records and nine runners placed in the top ten in their race. Runners in the top ten were named to the All-League team.
Heidi and Hayley Roberts took 2nd and 3rd in the girls race. Teammates Katelynn McGraw, Adison Hampton, and Riley Washington finished in 6th, 7th, and 9th. Corey Crouch was not far behind, posting a new personal best in 14th.
Jackson Wallace led the boys, setting a new personal record in a 2nd place effort. Erik Ghumm, Jacob Swisher, and Colby Shriver also cracked the top ten, placing 6th, 7th, and 9th. Kyle Hampton, Dalton Kenworthy, and Keagan Davidson rounded out the varsity spots with 15th, 19th, and 20th place finishes. Nathan Adams finished just four seconds behind Davidson for a good showing.
Also running for the team were Tanner MaGee, Brock McKennon, Jon Wiltshire, Hunter Egging, and Rohan Bhakta.
On Saturday, October 20, the varsity teams will pit themselves against 2A teams at the Regional meet held at the Meade Country Club. The girls race will start at 11:00. The boys race, tentatively scheduled for 11:40, will follow as soon as possible after the conclusion of the girls race.
