Pratt's Kaitlyn Rasmussen scored 16 points against Nickerson but the team fell short in a 59-45 loss.
The Pratt girls basketball team fell to Nickerson last Friday, Dec. 14, 45-59, de- spite the offensive power of Kaitlyn Rasmussen who poured in 16 points for the Greenbacks.
The girls started out the Nickerson game by digging themselves into a hole early on. They ended the first quarter losing 2-12.
They continued to struggle in the 2nd quarter as Nickerson continued to knock down shots and ended the half with a score of 13-31.
“The first half we let their press speed us up and rushed some things and got ourselves in a hole,” said Coach Dustin Hildebrand.
Pratt exited the locker room started the second half with more control of the ball and were able to close the scoring gap to 33-44.
“We got on a run and got back within 9 and 8 points several times but couldn’t get it any lower,” Hildebrand said.
The girls fought but were not able to climb out of the hole they dug in the first half. The game ended with the Greenbacks on the losing end, 45-59.
The Lady Greenbacks traveled to Hays on Tuesday to play in their last game of this year.
Hildebrand said they will need to learn from their mistakes against Nickerson if they want to beat Hays.
“Hays is also going to get out and press and pressure us and so will need to make sure we don’t get rushed. We also need to take care of the ball and not let them get easy points off turnovers,” he said.
