Isabel McKown, 99, passed away January 11, 2019. Rosary Vigil 7:00 p.m., Jan. 22. Funeral Mass Jan. 23, 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection, 4910 N. Woodlawn, Bel Aire, KS 67226. Internment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, KS 67214.
Isabel was born April 7, 1919 to Louis Joseph and Agnes Hines in Nokomis, IL. She was the first followed by a brother, Robert Hines (deceased), and sisters Bernice Shepherd and Marjorie Novel. After graduating High School in Nokomis, she found work at W.D.Allen Manufacturing Co. during WWII in Chicago and roller skated her way into a handsome sailor’s heart, Lee McKown, Jr. who became her devoted husband of 60 years. Together they raised a son, Joseph Lee (Linda) McKown - Scottsdale, AZ and a daughter, Marjorie (James) Shaw – Wichita, KS. They lost an infant daughter, Anne Winifred McKown in 1952.
In Pratt she worked as office manager at Jett’s Department Store for 28 years. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Parrish, She loved helping with the Miss Kansas Pageant in Pratt, was a board member of Pratt Community Concert, loved playing Bridge, and crocheting and knitting. She was a member of BPOE and worked on the election board. She loved watching birds, especially purple martins, cats and dogs.
When she moved to Liberal in 2000 she was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the rosary and Bible Study group. She moved to Wichita in 2010 and joined Church of the Resurrection in Bel Aire and enjoyed the “Over 50” group. She loved life, enjoyed making friends and had a great sense of humor.
She was so proud of her grandchildren, Debbie (Tom) Gill, John McKown, Jennifer Girvin, and Phillip (April) Shaw. She delighted in her 12 great grandchildren, Cassie, Cory, Aubrey, Arenal, Cameron, Julian, Ananda, Eden, Zion, Levi, Audrey, and Ian, all who knew where she kept and gladly shared her peanut M&Ms in her room. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
