While ranchers were stringing electric fence wire in northern Pratt County a transmission leak on their farm truck caused a fire that resulted in total loss of the vehicle Tuesday evening. There were no injuries.

A pair of Pratt County residents escaped injury after their pickup caught fire Tuesday evening while they were setting up an electric fence around some corn stalks northwest of Iuka.
Ed Kirkpatrick was driving a 2008 Dodge flatbed pickup when transmission fluid began to leak and caught fire. Kirkpatrick and his son, Brian Kirkpatrick, who was not in the truck when the fire started, got away from the vehicle and called for help.
Units from the Iuka Fire Department responded to the fire on NW 100th Street and a mile and a half west of U.S. 281. Thick, black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. By the time fire trucks arrived, fire had completely burned the vehicle that was a total loss.
Firefighters quickly had the fire extinguished but stayed on scene for some time to make sure there were no hot spots.
A large hammer was saved from the truck.
