Pratt High School sophomore Devon Weber made a big statement at his first state wrestling tournament last weekend, capping off an undefeated season at 106 lbs. with a state championship title in 4A competition.
The Pratt High school wrestling team added to their historic accomplishments on the mats at the 4A State Championships this past weekend in Salina, taking 4th out of 54 teams. Devon Weber, a 106 pound sophomore, was the lone champion from Pratt.
“Devon came into the tournament undefeated and with one goal in mind, to win a championship,” said head Greenback coach Tate Thompson.
Weber’s trip to the state title began with a fall over Hollman of Osawatomie in the 1st period. He then defeated #5-ranked Rhett Koppes of Clay Center, and went on to win an 8-0 major decision over Grayson Sonntag of Tonganoxie.
In the finals, Weber took on 40-6 state-ranked Trent Clements of Chanute, and won 5-2, winning his first state medal and finishing the season 41-0.
